I spent the day at Plympton Library getting things ready for next week...book displays, contests, meetings with teachers, and of course, checking in with Tortuga to see what he's been up to this summer. (Lots of resting!)
I hope you had a great summer! I read about 20 books and went lots of cool places, and thanks to everyone who gave me good ideas for books to read!
You still have one more week to do some reading, and if you tell me about your book here, you get to come to the library when school starts and get a free poster from my trip to library land in California--lots of kids have already done this!
So go get one more book--do some reading and let me know what it was!! See you next week.
Your library pal,
Ms. Paradis
I am about to pick up my Nook. First I'll finish Prisoner Of Azkaban, then I'll move on to Goblet of Fire. And I'm pretty sure I'll pick up my print copies of McKenna, The Westing Game, and One Hundred and One Dalmations before the summer is over! Maybe I'll even finish the Harry Potter series before school starts, I have them all on my Nook. My Nook rocks! I can carry around the complete Harry Potter series in somehting that weighs practically nothing! Have you tried all of them in a backpack at once? It weighs, like, twenty pounds!
ReplyDeleteHope you had fun in Maine! Can't wait till school starts so I can read NEW BOOKS!
I bet you can guess who this is, but I'll sign it anyway.
--Anna K, soon-to-be Grade Five!!!
Actually, I surprised myself. I just finished Things Not Seen by Andrew Clements. I've already read it, but that was so long ago I decided to read it again!
DeleteGo Anna! And thanks for recommending The Candymakers. I really enjoyed it. Who is your teacher in the fall? I will be on the lookout for you.
ReplyDeleteMrs. Lenza. I have just finished the first three days of school and she is AWESOME!!!!!

ReplyDeleteLucas did some project reading over the summer on the topic of "insect pests." It was supposed to be structured like the 2nd grade enrichment projects. We didn't finish the project (yet), but read a bunch of non-fiction books for it:
"Everything Bug" by Cherie Winner
"Mosquitoes" by Sandra Markle
"Millipedeology" by Michael Elson Ross
"Locusts" by Sandra Markle
"Creepy Crawly Baby Bugs" by Sandra Markle
"Cockroaches" by L. Patricia Kite
"Spiderology" by Michael Elson Ross
There were a few non-bug books in there this summer, but we didn't write them down. We also finished reading "The Subtle Knife" by Philip Pullman together.
Also, Ms. Paradis, we just found a great book at the Waltham library, "Lighthouses of North America!" by Lisa Trumbauer. Excellent info and full of projects. It would be a good addition to Plympton's collection.

ReplyDeleteLucas read 7 non-fiction books on "insect pests" for a summer project (not completed yet). Also several other books we didn't keep track of, and we finished "The Subtle Knife" together.
A great book we found that you might want for the Plympton library: "Lighthouses of North America!" by Lisa Trumbauer.
See you in a few days!
Hi Ms. Paradis I have read 3 books this summer (for school i have read a few more) those 3 are "Danger at the Fair", "The Ghost and Mrs.Hobbs", and "The Million Dollar Throw". Danger at the fair is about a girl who's brother is kidnapped at a fair and she has to go and find him. The Ghost and Mrs.Hobbs is about a girl named Allie who is "A ghost Magnet" who goes to figure out about a "murder?". "The Million Dollar Throw" (my favorite) is about a 13 year old nicknamed "Brady" who has a chance to throw a football through a hop to win $1,000,000 - James Martorilli II
ReplyDeleteGood for you James--I've always wondered about the Ghost and Mrs. Hobbs! I think I'll read it for Halloween. If you like The Million Dollar Throw, try the other books in this series--Million Dollar Kick, Millon Dollar Putt, etc. If they don't have them at the middle school library, let me know!
DeleteOk thanks Ms.Paradise ;D - James Martorilli
